The Best Way of Helping Korea and the Whole World.

In 1945, North Korea brought on the Korean War supported by the Soviet Union. Since then, the war had taken several years. The worst thing was that Korea was separated into two nations not by themselves but by two strong countries, the United States and the Soviet Union after the war. As a result, both Koreas have lost many things such as relations between family members, relatives, and neighbors and chances not to be a threat to the world but to develop economy. Therefore, the unity of South and North Korea is the most important thing we should achieve ethnically, economically, and globally.

First of all, South and North Koreans are the same race. They had lived altogether since about B.C 2300. However, the war separated these people into totally different two citizens. Also, it made them consider each people as enemies. Although the same-ethnic people should be able to live in the same nation, or, at least, to meet or communicate each other whenever they want, they are not allowed. Therefore, this tragedy should be finished by uniting the two Koreas.

Furthermore, the unity will bring lots of economic development. Some people argue that the union will have a negative effect on the economy of South Korea by showing the example of German unity. However, the process of union is different with German's. The German unity was so-called an absorption union; in other words, when it comes to economy, only West Germany took the responsibility of supporting the economy of East Germany. On the other hand, South Korea has been helping North Korea to develop its own economy. For example, both Koreas agreed to build the Gae-Sung business complex in North Korea near the border. The agreement is beneficial to both of them; South Korean businessmen build factories for the cheap labor, and North Korean workers get jobs and earn money. Therefore, based on this economic corporation, the united Korea will not experience the financial and economic problems which Germany did.

Moreover, world peace will be better than before. When the Bush administration was started, the president insisted that North Korea was one of the axes of evil. Then, their policies toward North Korea rapidly changed; they made a lot of regulations and threatened for North Korea to give up its nuclear. However, as they increased the pressure, the world peace was getting worse. Many people across the world thought a war would happen soon, so they started to worry and foreigners in Korea began to leave. As a result, the policies caused negative consequences to Korea, the United States, and other countries. Finally, they realized that the policies didn't work. The administration modified the policies to support North Korea.

To sum up, the Korean unity will bring lots of ethnic, economic and world-wide benefits. Korean people will be able to meet their family members or relatives they will never have seen. Moreover, economic corporation between two Koreas will enable them to develop much more. Furthermore, it will help world peace to become better. Therefore, we should put our efforts on making the union come true.

The definition of progress is a development or improvement whether it causes a problem or not. Historically, human beings have faced a lot of obstacles such as big dangerous animals, other tribes with brand-new and more powerful weapons, and so forth. The reason why people can be still surviving is because they have overcome these difficulties. Therefore, progress is always good since it enables people to develop and provides solutions to problems they encounter.

First of all, as technologies develop, many problems are being solved. For example, there were many kinds of illnesses which couldn't be treated a few decades ago. As a result, those people who had these diseases could not receive any treatments, and the only option was to wait for their deaths. However, treatments for the most of these problems have been invented recently, so they could be healed or live much longer than before if they were living now.

Furthermore, economic development brings better quality of humans’ lives and societies. It is obvious that more citizens in undeveloped countries are starving than people in developed nations in general. While many Americans think about how to live well for their lives, most Africans consider how to survive another day. Moreover, the infrastructure of a rich region is better than one of a poor area. For example, people in poor countries don’t care about sanitation as much as rich-country people do because they can’t even guarantee their own lives.

Progress also gives advantages across the world. Some people argue that development has been destroying the environment. Admittedly, it has sometimes caused unexpected and unintentional problems to the ecosystem. When vehicles were invented, nobody knew they could be harmful. However, when people realized that cars could affect to the environment negatively, they started to research how not to damage it. As a result, many environment-friendly technologies have been being invented, and the problems will be solved in near future.

To sum up, progress has given human beings a lot of benefits such as longer lives, better quality of people’s lives, and environmental solutions. Although development sometimes causes problems, progress is the only way to solve them. Therefore, people should keep researching and improving for ourselves, societies, and the earth.

In class essay: Is it fair that Korean universities have special admissions based upon financial contributions?

In the United States, many universities have an admission policy based on financial contributions which universities in Korea don’t have at all. Recently, it has been a hot issue that Korean universities should also make the policy. However, the policy cannot be established in Korea because of its university system.

The finance-contributed admission system is common in the US, and there has not been a big problem with it. In fact, the main reason why it’s common is because entering universities is not difficult compared with graduating. Therefore, students don’t feel unfair even if some students enter universities not based on their own ability but their parents’ money.

In Korea, on the other hand, the system is totally different. Being accepted to be university students is much harder than graduating from universities. Moreover, most people eager to attend high-level universities. As a result, entering universities causes a lot of competition because it guarantees for university students to receive bachelor degrees in general. Therefore, the policy based on financial contributions cannot be fair.

To sum up, the university admission system in Korea cannot enable the policy to be accepted because of the difference with the system in the US. Therefore, unless the system changes to make entering universities much easier, the contributed admission is not acceptable in Korea.
