The definition of progress is a development or improvement whether it causes a problem or not. Historically, human beings have faced a lot of obstacles such as big dangerous animals, other tribes with brand-new and more powerful weapons, and so forth. The reason why people can be still surviving is because they have overcome these difficulties. Therefore, progress is always good since it enables people to develop and provides solutions to problems they encounter.
First of all, as technologies develop, many problems are being solved. For example, there were many kinds of illnesses which couldn't be treated a few decades ago. As a result, those people who had these diseases could not receive any treatments, and the only option was to wait for their deaths. However, treatments for the most of these problems have been invented recently, so they could be healed or live much longer than before if they were living now.
Furthermore, economic development brings better quality of humans’ lives and societies. It is obvious that more citizens in undeveloped countries are starving than people in developed nations in general. While many Americans think about how to live well for their lives, most Africans consider how to survive another day. Moreover, the infrastructure of a rich region is better than one of a poor area. For example, people in poor countries don’t care about sanitation as much as rich-country people do because they can’t even guarantee their own lives.
Progress also gives advantages across the world. Some people argue that development has been destroying the environment. Admittedly, it has sometimes caused unexpected and unintentional problems to the ecosystem. When vehicles were invented, nobody knew they could be harmful. However, when people realized that cars could affect to the environment negatively, they started to research how not to damage it. As a result, many environment-friendly technologies have been being invented, and the problems will be solved in near future.
To sum up, progress has given human beings a lot of benefits such as longer lives, better quality of people’s lives, and environmental solutions. Although development sometimes causes problems, progress is the only way to solve them. Therefore, people should keep researching and improving for ourselves, societies, and the earth.
